The beautiful tulip shell, Fasciolaria tulipa, commonly known as the true tulip, is a species of large sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Fasciolariidae. This fiercely predatory species occupies a wide geographic range in the western Atlantic and is known, like other tulip shells, for its superficial resemblance to a closed tulip flower. The tulip shell has a spindle-shaped outline, with a generally smooth surface, fine growth lines, and small serrations on the inner edge of the delicate outer lip. It is white to light brown in color, with rows of darker brownish spots of varying sizes. Above the spots are symmetrical rows of fine lines that spiral along the whorls of the shell, of which there are normally about nine. Dimensions: 55/65/135mm.
