Canal Street [Complete with Original Slipcase & Box], signed by author Ian Frazier and illustrator Saul Steinberg, is a 1990 first edition limited edition hardback from the Whitney Museum of American Art, 68 pages, with original slipcase and Whitney shipping box.
Description from the seller
“Canal Street” is the first title in the Artists and Writers: American Journals series, published by the Library Fellows of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
The book features text by Ian Frazier and artwork by Saul Steinberg, both of whom signed this limited edition.
Printed and bound entirely by hand at the Stamperia Valdonega, Verona, under the supervision of Martino Mardersteig, the edition was produced with exceptional craftsmanship. The text is set in monotype Van Dyck and includes Steinberg’s illustrations printed from the artist’s original proofs.
This copy includes its original slipcase and the original labeled shipping box from the Whitney Museum, both in very good condition.
The book itself is clean, tight, and well preserved, with no marks, stains, or defects.
A fine example of the collaboration between one of America’s most respected writers and one of the most influential illustrators of the 20th century, produced by one of Italy’s most renowned fine-press printers.
