Description from the seller
Official set 'Fleurs de Coins' (FDC) – Monnaie de Paris – Year 1980 – Limited edition (60,000 copies)
Superb official 'Fleurs de Coins' (FDC) box set from the Monnaie de Paris, dated 1980, is a particularly sought-after numismatic piece, notably due to its limited edition and the presence of the rare 50 franc Hercule coin, struck only for this edition. It is a complete set consisting of the ten French coins of the year, all presented in original sealed packaging and kept in impeccable condition.
The mention 'Fleur de coin' indicates that the coins have never circulated: they are perfectly new, with no signs of use, and retain all their original shine. The box offers a comprehensive overview of French currency in 1980, ranging from the 1 centime to the impressive 50 franc silver coin.
The 50 franc Hercule coin is the highlight of the set. Made of silver (900‰), it has a diameter of 41 mm and weighs 30 g. An important feature is that the year 1980 was never struck for circulation: the only existing specimens come exclusively from these proof sets, which explains its great rarity and the interest it garners among collectors.
The total print run of the FDC 1980 set is estimated at only 60,000 units, a very low figure for a production by the Monnaie de Paris at that time, which gives this edition a limited and highly sought-after character.
The box gathers the following ten pieces, all in FDC condition:
– 50 francs Hercule (silver 900‰, 41 mm, 30 g)
– 10 francs République (copper-aluminium, 26 mm, 10 g)
– 5 francs Semeuse (cupro-nickel, 29 mm, 12 g)
2 francs Semeuse (nickel, 26.5 mm, 7.5 g)
– 1 Semeuse franc (nickel, 23.2 mm, 6 g)
– 1/2 Semeuse franc (nickel, 19.5 mm, 3 g)
– 20 centimes Cérès (cupro-aluminium, 23.5 mm, 4 g)
– 10 cents Cérès (cupro-aluminium, 20 mm, 3 g)
– 5 centimes Lindauer (stainless steel, 17 mm, 2 g)
- 1 centime Lindauer (stainless steel, 15 mm, 1.6 g)
