The Porsche 917 was highly remarkable due to the unique composition of the car. The chassis was made of aluminum, the body of fiber-reinforced plastic, and the engine was a so-called 180° V12 (a combination of two Porsche 911 engines). The Porsche 917 was widely used during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it won in 1970 and 1971. The car also won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1971.
