Two fossil woolly mammoth foot parts (Mammuthus primigenius) from the Late Pleistocene, naturally preserved, originating from the North Sea; includes a mammoth heel bone (18 cm long, 13 cm wide, 13 cm thick) and an astragalus (15 cm long, 3 cm wide, 7 cm thick).
Description from the seller
Fossil mammoth foot parts - Mammuthus primigenius
Very beautiful part of a mammoth's foot.
It concerns a mammoth heel bone, the largest bone in the tarsus, the attachment site of the Achilles tendon.
And a mammoth astragalus (or spring bone, astragalus)
It is a single bone from a woolly mammoth.
It is a part of the hind leg, crucial for movement.
Very nice fossil set.
These pieces are desalinated and still in clean water; everyone preserves them in their own way. I am happy to leave this to the next owner.
Doggerland no longer exists, but traces of it can still be found on the beaches of the North Sea. It is not uncommon for walkers, enthusiasts, and researchers to find something special there.
Marvelous treasures such as a vertebra, tooth, or rib of a mammoth. Bones are also retrieved from dredged sandbanks and fishing nets, including this one at the end of 2024.
