AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Specimen of Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) in spring dress.
Example from an old collection with a tag at the foot numbered 14871 A.PROV.(PN) + closed ring at the foot, issued by the hunting and fishing office of the province of Pordenone.
Good condition

Widespread throughout Eurasia, Africa, and Indonesia; in Italy, it is found primarily in the Po Valley and Tuscany, but is also present in Sardinia, Sicily, Umbria, Lazio, and Puglia. The purple heron is a regular migrant and is present in Italy during the summer (easiest to spot between March and May), after which it migrates south to the Sahara in late summer. It frequents freshwater lakes bordered by reeds or marshy woods such as willows and alders, and also inhabits rice paddies, rivers, oxbow lakes, and ditches with abundant vegetation, although it is more difficult and rare to find than other heron species (Grey Heron, Great White Heron).
