Two chalcocite thumbnails on matrix from Geevor Mine, Pendeen, St Just, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Two very cute pinky nails as I have decided to call every piece under 2 cm from now on of English Chalcocite from the Geevor mining complex which includes the original Geevor mine the modern Geevor mine and the north Levant mine in total being active from the 18th century to 1991, 1992 being the year they stopped the pumps. This mine is considered by many the best locality in the world for quality chalcocite specimens although I have to say that the material from the DRC and Las Cruces is also up there (in my opinion). Either way the main and largest piece of this lot is a small piece of brown matrix covered with very sharp and lustrous single crystals and elbow twins of chalcocite up to 0.8 mm in size, with the other one being a very tiny single tabular twined crystal set on top of a small base of very tiny crystals of what I guess is also chalcocite covered by a layer of dark green powdery malachite. No damages can be reported, and unfortunately, since no previous labels were preserved, I couldn’t verify the age of these pieces, so I can only guess both were extracted before 1950
