AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Magnificent and rare panoramic view of the city of Parma, published by Pierre Mortier in Amsterdam at the beginning of the 18th century in his famous Nouveau Théâtre d’Italie, one of the most important and decorative collections dedicated to Italian cities.

The view presents Parma with extraordinary precision.
The fortified city with star-shaped bastions and continuous moats.
The Parma stream with its branches and banks.
The dual urban centers: the old town and the southern expansion.
Hundreds of identifiable buildings: churches, palaces, monasteries, towers.
A detailed descriptive legend at the top left with the numbers of the main buildings.
The noble coat of arms at the top right, engraved with elaborate Baroque decoration.
Orientation indicated with the compass rose.

The urban plan, reproduced with a very fine incisive quality, derives from the tradition of Joan Blaeu's Theatrum Civitatum, reworked by Mortier in a more scenic and updated manner.

The input is a dash character, which does not require translation.

Condition

Very well-preserved specimen.
Strong impression, rich in ink.
