Description from the seller

Rare block of Plesiosaur bones – Upper Cretaceous (about 95–70 million years ago) – Goulmima, Morocco

We are offering at auction a fascinating fossil block from the Goulmima area (Eastern Morocco), known worldwide for its exceptional deposits of marine vertebrates from the Late Cretaceous (Aoufous Formation, Turonian–Coniacian, approximately 95–70 million years ago).

The block, measuring 43 × 38 × 20 cm (with support 43 × 48 × 20 cm), encloses numerous bone remains attributable to a Plesiosaurus, the large marine predator that inhabited the Cretaceous seas of North Africa. They are clearly visible:
some complete vertebrae
ribs
a bone of the pectoral belt
All arranged three-dimensionally within the original sediment.

The preparation of the fossil required dozens of hours of meticulous work, highlighting the striking color contrast between the beige stone matrix and the dark brown bones.

The block features bones distributed 360°, making it spectacular from every angle. It is mounted on an elegant steel support, with a steel base plate, stainless steel pin, and brass junction. The system allows free rotation of the piece and easy disassembly without tools, ensuring both stability and practicality.

A piece of great aesthetic impact, ideal for both private collectors and museum exhibitions.
