Description from the seller
Rare opportunity to see the passenger ship RMS Ivernia, Viking, WWI/WWII, etc. (see pictures) W2
Passenger ship Ivernia (16 cm) old
as well as 17 different smaller ships
The Ivernia was built at the Swan Hunter shipyard in Newcastle, where she was launched on 21 September 1899.[1] After her completion in March 1900, the single-funneled ship departed Liverpool on her maiden voyage to New York City on 14 April. After three New York voyages, she was put into service on the Liverpool-Boston route. On 24 May 1911, she collided with the Daunt Rock off the coast of Ireland, outside Queenstown. She remained out of service for repairs until 17 October 1911.
In 1912, she was transferred to the Trieste-New York service, calling at ports including Funchal, Naples, Palermo, Messina, Trieste, and Fiume.[1] In September 1914, she was converted into a troop transport. On January 1, 1917, en route from Thessaloniki to Alexandria, she was torpedoed and sunk by UB 47 about 58 nautical miles southeast of Cape Matapan. Eighty-four sailors and 36 crew members lost their lives. The escorting destroyer Rifleman and other escort vessels rescued the survivors.
Its last captain was William Thomas Turner, who commanded the Lusitania on its final voyage. Turner survived this sinking as well and went down in history as the captain who lost two ships in the First World War and survived both times.
A must-have for every collector.
Note: The cost of package shipping includes packaging, shipping, postage, tracking fees, and insurance up to €500. Small parts / figures may potentially be damaged during transport / are fragile.
