AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Giant sea snail Chicoreus ramosus

This snail, also called the giant spiny snail in German, is a predatory sea snail found throughout the Indo-Pacific. It inhabits the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean off the coasts of East Africa and South Africa, near Madagascar and the Gulf of Oman, and in the Pacific Ocean up to eastern Polynesia, from Japan to northern Australia.

The Latin name is Chicoreus ramosus (Linnaeus, 1758). It is the largest species of the Muricidae family and can, in extreme cases, grow up to approximately 30 cm tall.
Your distinctive feature is the heavy case with numerous spikes and three long thorns per coil.

The specimen offered here, originating from Indonesia, is 25 cm tall and measures just under 21 cm from stinger tip to stinger tip at its widest point. It weighs a proud 950 g. The mouth canal is beautifully formed all the way down, and all main and secondary spines are perfect, except for one: the fourth-last spine on the penultimate coil has small holes, likely caused by a drill sponge that lived on the snail shell. (For this and all other details, see the photos).

A particularly impressive sea snail, suitable for a shell collection or as an attractive decorative object matching any interior.

Carefully packed and shipped via DHL parcel with tracking.
No protected CITES species, so no restrictions.
