Description from the seller
First edition from 1991, first print run.
Tom of Finland (Touko Laaksonen) is an iconic figure in gay culture.
His hyper-masculine and strongly stereotypical drawings had a significant influence on 20th-century gay culture.
This book is a retrospective of Tom of Finland's work, covering over 40 years of career.
This work is a major visual testimony: it serves as an art catalog, but also as an archive for works that were not necessarily widely disseminated before.
The Tom of Finland Foundation, which publishes this book, was founded in 1984 to preserve and promote his work.
It features more than 200 works: pencil drawings, charcoal, gouache, etc.
The book mainly uses black and white images but also includes pages in color, which highlights certain works that are more visually rich.
- The illustrations are often chronological, showing the evolution of Tom's style, with works from the 1940s to the 1980s.
- Pagination: 192 pages
- Format: 28 x 22 cm
The language is set to English.
Condition: Very good, interior free of annotations and dog-eared pages.
Cover with some marks and slightly rubbed corners.
See the photos that are part of the description.
Very beautiful specimen.
It will be delivered in a carefully packaged, robust, and tracked package.
