Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Estimated period 1850–1900; material silver (800); style Art Nouveau (Jugendstil).
Description from the seller
Silver perfume bottle – Art Nouveau – 800 silver – circa 1900
Origin: probably Germany or Austria.
Material: 800/1000 silver, certified.
Dimensions: height 7 cm – diameter 1.5 cm
Weight: 18 grams
Very refined perfume bottle from the Art Nouveau period (circa 1895–1910), made of 800 silver with richly engraved floral relief decoration. The slender stems and open five-petaled flowers clearly represent jasmine (Jasminum officinale) – a motif that during this period symbolized feminine grace, refinement, and sensual purity.
The housing is equipped with a hinged silver cap with an inner stopper. Such miniature bottles were often worn on a chatelaine or in a lady's reticule, filled with fragrant essences or perfumes.
The '800' stamp indicates continental silver (80% pure silver), commonly used in German and Austrian workshops around 1900. There is also another stamp next to it, probably from the silversmith, but I cannot decipher it.
The graceful lines and natural motifs are characteristic of Jugendstil / Art Nouveau. The meticulous detailing of the jasmine flowers demonstrates the high level of craftsmanship that was then only found in artisanal workshops.
Condition: very good, minimal signs of use, the cap is a little loose.
