Description from the seller
Screen printing Transformer station Velsen (a small house for the Elektra's on Biezenweg) is part of the project 'Industrip': industrial heritage in screen printing. In 1996, the province of North Holland commissioned six comic strip artists to create designs of industrial heritage. Peter Pontiac, Peter van Dongen, Ever Meulen, Theo van den Boogaard, and Joost Veerkamp were the other participants.
Characteristic of the transformer station are the two colorful, glazed decorative tiles depicting a rooster and a dog. They are intended as an extra warning alongside the sign 'opening is deadly dangerous.' The rooster warns, and the dog snaps if the curious visitor goes too far. Another interpretation that arose among people was that the rooster symbolized the 'announcement of light,' and the dog represented the 'faithful delivery.'
