Description from the seller

Mater Dolorosa, polychromed wood, Northern Spain, 17th century

Professionally shipped – more than 850 five-star reviews worldwide.

Polychromed wooden sculpture of Mary, richly carved in deep, flowing drapery with remnants of original blue and gold polychromy. The upward gaze, expressive posture, and arm positions suggest that it likely was part of a crucifixion group, a typical North-Spanish ensemble from the 17th century in which Mary stood beside the cross.

Height 49 cm, in weathered but authentic condition with pronounced signs of age: wear to the polychromy, lacunae, cracks in the wood, and some old consolidations. The base is rough and fully hand-carved, consistent with the regional tradition from this period. The sculpture comes with a plinth, covered with red velvet that is completely worn through.

Please carefully review the photos, as they are part of the description.

Shipped with track & trace.
