Description from the seller

Tara - Small and ancient sculpture of a Buddhist deity with three heads.

Bronze casting
Java
Indonesia
20th Century

Measures
Cm 9x4x3
106 grams

This small sculpture depicts the Buddhist (and Hindu) deity Tara*, mother of all Buddhas, with three heads and numerous arms, seated on a base with lotus flower petals.
This sculpture is in its original state.
Here, the multiplication of arms and heads is carried out to emphasize the omnipotence of the divinity as well as its power, capable of materializing anywhere.

* Tara
She is a very popular female bodhisattva among both laypeople and monks of Hinduism and Buddhism.
In Sanskrit, her name means Liberator, but also Star and She who takes you beyond, to the other shore, like a Buddha.
Considered an emanation of Bodhisattva Avalokitésvara, she was born from a beautiful lotus floating in one of his tears to help him.
The earliest representations of the goddess date back to the 6th century AD.
In Hinduism, Tara is one of the ten Mahavidya: one of the goddesses grouped under the name of Great Wisdom. This concept is used in iconography, for example, in India.
She transports births and rebirths across the ocean.
Sometimes depicted on Shiva's body, sometimes nurturing him with his mother's milk; he is also associated with cremations.
In Buddhism, Tara is a female bodhisattva endowed with miraculous powers, particularly those of freeing followers from physical dangers.
It is also a tantric deity visualized and meditated upon by practitioners of Vajrayana Buddhism. In Tibetan Buddhism, she is considered the Liberator and the Mother of all Buddhas.

The sculpture is in good condition; please carefully review the photos, which are an integral part of the description. On the back, it is noted and shown in the photo that there is a small hole where the bronze is missing.
