A 16th century Gothic armor spur with a six maple leaf spokes wheel, complete with original fittings and in very good condition, a tangible piece of knightly craft for focused bidders.
Description from the seller
Knightly armor traces of the 16th century.
This Gothic spur was part of a knight's armor, specifically a Gothic armor spur of a heavily armored knight. Features of this spur type include the massive and very wide mounting plate as well as a longer than usual wheel strap. This was necessary to prevent the spur from slipping on plate armor / leg guards.
A truly beautiful piece in exceptionally good condition!
Length: about 140mm
Width: approximately 80mm
Wheel diameter: approximately 30mm with 6 spokes.
Spoked wheel in a special custom-made carrier, each spoke shaped like a maple leaf.
The spur is complete with the original attachments and buckles, which are freely movable and still functional!
Exceptionally well preserved, the sporenrad is complete and can freely rotate. No restoration, professional cleaning, and conservation.
A historical artifact of knighthood as well as Gothic blacksmithing.
Provenance: acquired from an auction house in 2025.
