Rare collection of precious Mexican fire opal with an intense red color (cherry opal), faceted. The exceptional transparency makes this lot particularly suitable for creating exquisite jewelry pieces. The name given to this particular type of opal is due to its color, reminiscent of fire, with shades ranging from yellow, to orange, to red, just like the flames. The most important source of fire opal is Mexico. Mexican opal has been used for hundreds of years by the ancient Maya and Aztec tribes and was called 'Quetzalitzlipyollitli,' meaning 'Stone of the paradise bird.'
