The Liaoxitriton zhongjiani is a small and slender salamander, with a snout-to-vent length of approximately 69 mm and a total skeletal length of 120–140 mm. The skull is slightly longer than it is wide, and the surface of the cranial bones lacks any pitted structure. The premaxilla and maxilla bear approximately 25 and 50 teeth, respectively. The vertebrae are amphicoelous (concave on both ends) and show poor ossification. There are 16 presacral vertebrae, and the transverse processes are about half the length of the vertebral centra. The forelimbs have four digits, while the hind limbs have five.
