Sylt (Danish: Sild, North Frisian: Söl) is the second-largest North Frisian Wadden (shingle) island after Rømø. It is located in the northern part of the Wadden Sea, close to the Danish border. Sylt belongs to the district of North Frisia in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Over the centuries, the island has continuously decreased in size due to erosion.
