Description from the seller

A pair of nacre plaques, carved and applied to olive wood, from Jerusalem as souvenirs for pilgrims in the 19th century. One depicts the crucifixion; at the bottom, there is a small space containing a fragment of the stone from the Holy Sepulcher of Jesus. Scenes depict the crucifixion, the deposition, the holy women, the Roman soldiers, and the trigram of Saint Bernardine on the sides. The other depicts the birth of Jesus, with a relic of the stone from the cave in Bethlehem where Jesus was born at the bottom, along with scenes of the Nativity, the Annunciation, the trigram of Saint Bernardine, and the symbol of Mary. Extremely rare objects of great charm and quality.
