Background Hannong Strasbourg-Haguenau
The De Hannong factories were a famous porcelain and faience factory active in the 18th century in present-day Strasbourg and Haguenau.
Charles-François Hannong started production in Strasbourg, after which the factory was continued by his sons, who perfected new techniques, such as gilding.
The factories were pioneers in the use of the 'petit feu' firing method, which allowed for a broader color palette. Son Paul Hannong also improved the gilding technique. Joseph Hannong was the son of Paul Hannong and was active from 1755 to 1780.
