Description from the seller
Autograph letter from Ferdinand BAC, dated February 24, 1948, addressed to Emily. Written in black ink on a sheet of vellum paper.
The author expresses concern for his correspondent's health, briefly mentions his own, and discusses his ongoing work for a group of enthusiasts of the Second Empire. He also alludes to a letter received from the deputy of Oise, who was then the mayor of Compiègne.
Thank you, Emily, for the lovely letter, but I remain concerned about your health.
Mine is better. The proof is that I have already used three bottles of hairspray. So see you on Sunday, if God wills it, but only if there is no more snow and you are well rested. I worked for Marcelle's friends since they love the illustrious fêtes of the Second Empire. Monsieur le dépote de l'Oise and Mayor of Compiègne wrote to me this morning.
A small photograph is pasted in the upper left corner of the letter, and Bac added a long handwritten caption:
My goddaughter Maria Laetitia, daughter of Colonel Marquis de Monléon and descendant of the Della Rovere family of Julius II, protector of Raphael and Michelangelo.
The first wife (divorced) of her father is a Russian woman whom he brought from Odessa and who is now: (please sit down!) H.R.H. Princess Pierre of Greece, daughter-in-law of Marie Bonaparte, the friend of Aristide Briand! ...
All of this revolves around this little girl because S.A.R. came to visit her a month ago! (And to think I am a Revolutionary!) Moralist...
Dimensions: 13.3 x 19.7 cm
Condition: See photos for details.
