Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A Sumerian cream stone head amulet dating to circa 3200–2900 BC, measuring 2.2 cm by 2.0 cm, with almond-shaped eyes, straight nose and mouth, a vertical perforation through the centre, late Uruk/Jemdet Nasr period, previously in private collection and acquired from Ex SM collection London, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
A Sumerian cream stone head with finely carved almond-shaped eyes, straight nose and mouth. The sunken eye probably would have held insets of precious or semi-precious stone. There are tongue patterns engraved to the top of the head and sides, indicating hair. The head is pierced vertically through the centre. The reverse is flat and unadorned.
Late Uruk/Jemdet Nasr Period. Such amulets have also been described as depicting a demon, thus they were most likely apotropaic.
Measurements: L 2.2cm x W 2.0cm
Provenance: Ex SM collection London, acquired 1970s-2000s.
N.B. Delivery may be longer due to the busier period and we do not guarantee delivery before Christmas. Items paid for after the 19th December will be shipped after the New Year (week commencing on the 5th January 2026). **There will be an additional fee incurred for returned shipments due to buyer’s non-response to customs enquiries and/or unsuccessful delivery attempts.**
