AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Set of three Wayang Golek puppets – Java, Indonesia – wood, textile – hand-carved – circa mid-20th century

A characterful set of Wayang Golek puppets, consisting of three different types from the classic Javanese wayang stories: an aristocrat/ksatria figure, a rakshasa/demon, and a noblewoman or court attendant with a high headdress. These puppets are fully hand-carved and painted; each with original batik clothing and wooden control sticks (bamboo).

The central giant figure is expressively rendered in white lacquer and black lines, with red-bordered eyes and a large set of teeth. The other two figures display more refined faces and detailed headdresses, typical of the halus/gagah character play within the wayang tradition.

These dolls clearly show signs of age and use, such as wear on the varnish, missing pieces of paint, loose connections, and textile wear — fitting for traditional, older play dolls. Their charm lies precisely in their well-used character.

Condition
Good to reasonable condition, with clear signs of use and age. Lacquer wear, craquelé, chips, some damaged or loose arms, signs of use on clothing. Photos are an integral part of the description.

Dimensions (approximate)
Height of figures: approximately 50 cm.

Materials: cut and painted wood, textile, bamboo sticks.
Origin: Java, Indonesia.

Carefully packed in a custom-made box and shipped insured.
