AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

In this lot I offer Orthoceras in large polished plates, top quality, very aesthetic.
The beak of the shell can be seen behind the piece.
There are large concentrations of these fossils in Erfoud in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.
*They had an external conical shell that was divided into chambers that could be emptied or filled with water, thus controlling buoyancy and positioning themselves at different depths.
When they died, probably in large numbers during mating cycles, their shells accumulated on the seabed, where they were swept away by currents until they settled.
