The EF81 is a versatile AC/DC electric locomotive used throughout Japan for both passenger and freight trains.
This model reproduces the early production version with small cab windows and a simplified body style, painted in JR East’s iconic deep red “Red No.2” livery.

This is a strictly limited-production model, manufactured by TOMIX in small quantities to replicate a rare real-life variant: early-type EF81 units with black window gaskets (H-rubber) in Red No.2 livery—seen only on EF81-17 and EF81-18.
Because of its rarity and accuracy, this model was immediately sold out upon release, and TOMIX has officially announced that no further production or restocking is planned.
It is now highly sought after by collectors and rarely found on the market.
