Description from the seller

A fascinating Ailoceras slice, showcasing the intricate internal structure of this extinct ammonoid, beautifully displayed in a frame that harmonizes with the natural color of its matrix.

The combination of fossil and frame creates a refined and elegant presentation that highlights both the beauty and complexity of ancient marine life.

Ailoceras is an extinct genus of ammonoids, marine cephalopods closely related to ammonites, squids, and nautiluses.

They lived during the Devonian period, over 380 million years ago, in the warm and shallow seas of the ancient world.

This specimen represents a transverse slice through the fossil, revealing the internal chambers (septa) that once helped the animal control its buoyancy.

The fine mineral infillings inside the chambers create beautiful natural patterns and colors, making this piece both scientifically significant and visually captivating.

Period: Devonian (approximately 380 million years ago)
Origin: Boeny Region, Madagascar
Frame size: 15.5 x 20.5 cm
Condition: Natural fossil slice, professionally prepared and framed.

Ammonite 9.7 cm

A unique and elegant piece that combines natural history, science, and art — perfect for collectors or as a distinctive decorative element.
