From the Imperial folio volume "Coney's Foreign Cathedrals - Engravings of ancient cathedrals, Hotel de Ville, and other grand examples of Gothic architecture, in France, Holland, Germany and Italy, drawn on the spot and engraved by John Coney".
John Coney was known for finely detailed architectural drawings and engravings at a time when London was changing rapidly. Born in 1786, he trained as a draughtsman and developed a reputation for remarkable precision, particularly in depictions of cathedrals, churches and major civic buildings.
Coney worked frequently with publishers producing topographical views, and his plates appeared in several important architectural volumes of the early nineteenth century.
He died in 1833
Published in 1831.
