Description from the seller
Incredible set of 4 thagomizers (tail spikes) from a thyreophoran fossil, probably Adratiklit boulafa (the oldest stegosaur from the Jurassic).
This incredible piece is composed of four different tips and has been mounted on an elegant steel support.
The tips measure from 25 to 21 cm in length.
All the tips are in good condition, with only some glued parts and a small 3 cm fill on one of the tips.
This was the most formidable weapon of the tail of this group of armored dinosaurs.
Thyreophora are characterized by the presence of armor arranged in longitudinal rows along the body. Primitive forms had simple, low, keel-shaped shields or osteoderms, while more derived forms developed more elaborate structures including spines and plates. Most Thyreophora were herbivores and had relatively small brains for their body sizes.
The group of Thyreophora includes various subgroups, including the suborders Ankylosauria and Stegosauria.
In both suborders, the forelimbs were much shorter than the hind limbs, especially in stegosaurs.
Found in the Jurassic deposits of El Mers FM. Morocco.
