Description from the seller

This impressive icon comes from an old European family where sacred art has played a special role for generations. For decades, this piece served as a protective symbol of the home, touched by prayers, quiet devotion, and family ceremonies.

It was once acquired at a prestigious auction in the venerable auction house – a place where the boundaries between art, history, and destiny blur. In a thrilling bidding war, the family patriarch at the time prevailed. The moment of the hammer falling became part of the family tradition, recounted like a triumph, almost like divine intervention.

The silver-plated oklad (riza) bears a charismatic, organic patina, the kind that only objects loved, cherished, and preserved develop. Exposed areas in the oklad reveal parts of the original woodwork and paintwork – not a flaw, but a spiritual revelation that highlights the traditional craftsmanship.

The depiction of Christ Pantocrator, with a gesture of blessing and the Book of Life, embodies the powerful symbolism of the Orthodox-Byzantine icon tradition – timeless, dignified and with a strong visual presence.
