Description from the seller

Unpublished manuscript (dated February 4, 1939) of Victor Barbaudy's childhood memories (born in 1863 in Bordeaux) up to his departure for military service in 1880: Bordeaux, Arcachon, Bagnères-de-Bigorre, Talence, Marseille, Provence, and the Côte d'Azur, etc.
V. Barbaudy ends his career as general director of the Industrial Petroleum Company and vice-president of the Chamber of the Petroleum Industry.
Finely crafted, decorated, and notably illustrated with 120 watercolors (city views, landscapes, scenes of daily life, etc.)

On sheets, the entire manuscript is housed in boxes from the 1950s, bound in half-red morocco with corner tips, measuring 28.5 x 22.5 cm, with smooth spine. In excellent condition. Comprising two volumes of 4 pages, 299 pages, 3 pages, plus 1 page of 129 pages, 5 pages.

The first three leaves of the first volume and the first of the second volume are not finished. The text stops on page 128 of the second volume, followed by three leaves prepared for writing but each containing only a watercolor. Ten leaves of handwritten drafts of upcoming pages are attached, along with eight larger sheets of draft sketches on squared paper, containing erasures and some preliminary sketches.

Joints of the same
- 2 notebooks in-12, bound in Bradel with black half-basane on squared paper, constituting the first version of the author's memories, written from May 1887 to February 1888 and supplementing the Memories.
- Oblong in-12 notebook, made with unbleached silk cardboard, with P. Berville label. A front-facing portrait of a man drawn with colored pencils. An inserted pencil sketch depicts the head of a chapel in a castle.
Bordeaux half-percaline notebook with the stationery label of Ch. Darras (back partially detached), contains 13 drawings, including 12 in watercolor, most signed J. Barbaudy and created in 1905. Among others, it depicts: Ranelagh Street, boats arriving at the port, the bridge over the Yonne in Sens, and the Saint-Martin-du-Tertre church (Yonne).
