Description from the seller

Sasanian Kings. Set of 3 AR Drachms.

Bahram V (420-438 AD).

Bahram V, known as Bahram Gur, ruled the Sasanian Empire from 420 to 438 and became one of its most celebrated monarchs, remembered as much for his legendary exploits as for his political achievements. The son of Yazdegerd I, he secured the throne with Hephthalite support after a contested succession, later asserting his independence and restoring internal stability. His reign saw renewed cultural vitality, the flourishing of Persian literature and art, and the strengthening of royal authority. Although later romanticized in Persian epic and poetry as a gallant hunter and lover, Bahram V also proved an able ruler who preserved the empire’s unity and prestige during a period of transition.
