In 1948, Danish paper artist Edel Erstad and her husband, a painter by profession, started a company. They design and produce beautiful paper cuttings. Erstad & Stubbe-Teglbjærg (EST) create handcrafted objects that honor modern aesthetics and this beautiful Danish tradition.
Erstad & Stubbe-Teglbjærg (EST) is a relatively small but highly distinctive Danish design and craft studio, best known for handcrafted wooden sculptures and figures from the second half of the 20th century. Today, the brand is especially appreciated by collectors of Danish Modern, alongside icons like Kay Bojesen and Hans Bølling, but with a clearly unique, expressive handwriting.
EST stands for Erstad & Stubbe-Teglbjærg, a collaboration between Danish designers/artisans that was active from around the 1960s–1970s. Production took place entirely in Denmark, in small series and often partly finished by hand.
This is a vintage maple wooden figure by the designer Edel Erstad from Denmark. The figure is influenced by Japanese kokeshi, such as Shindo Shozan, one of the most influential kokeshi artists.
