Italy, antique linen sheet with hand-embroidered motifs in white, sheet 2.60 x 2.33 m and two pillowcases 0.87 x 0.55 m.
Description from the seller
The image shows an antique sheet.
with pillowcases made of pure, high-quality, and durable linen
The embroidery, done by hand, features satin stitch, net stitch, and needle stitch, with floral motifs.
Hand embroidery on linen is typical of antique linen, often included in the dowry.
These vintage pieces are considered precious for their craftsmanship and for bearing witness to a bygone tradition.
The embroidery in the center and on the sides is done with a net stitch, similar to needle lace or filet embroidery. The design features circular motifs, which are created by filling in the mesh of the net. This embroidery technique, like Modano embroidery, is based on manual work on a stretched net, using specific stitches such as the 'canvas stitch'. The canvas stitch is used to recreate the fabric's weave within the squares of the net.
