The Tricolore Legion, created in 1942, is a French military unit formed during the Second World War. It was established following the armistice of 1940, in a context where France was occupied by Nazi forces.
This legion was made up of Free French and resistance fighters eager to continue the fight against the occupier. It was integrated into the forces of Free France under the command of General de Gaulle. The unit was initially mainly composed of volunteers in North Africa.
Its members participated in numerous operations, notably in Africa, Italy, and during the landing in Provence in 1944. The soldiers of the Tricolore Legion distinguished themselves by their bravery and determination to defend republican values.
After the war, the Legion contributed to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of France. It also became a symbol of French resistance and the fight for freedom. Today, the memory of the Tricolour Legion is honored for its commitment and sacrifice.
