Two vintage tribal vases in terracotta from the Sasak community on Lombok Island, handmade.
The vases exude the region's rich cultural heritage and meticulous craftsmanship. Handmade from locally sourced red clay, they feature unique textures, earthy tones, and intricate patterns that reflect Indonesia's cultural influences. They embody a harmonious blend of art and functionality, serving as both stunning decorative pieces and symbols of Indonesian craftsmanship passed down through generations.
The Sasak are a people of nearly two million who live in the central and eastern areas of Lombok. A people carrying millennia-old traditions, words from a unique language, and houses that seem to grow from the very earth. Alongside agricultural activities, they engage in crafting valuable items, particularly textiles and ceramics. Traditionally poorer than the Balinese, the Sasak are beginning to benefit from their artisanal work, which is considered among the most interesting in Indonesia.
