JOHN STEVENS - The Pillow Book of Spring and Laughter - Limited edition with Jacket & Obi ( N° 32 / 300 ) - 153 - 2001

A rare and comprehensive book on the subtitle 'Eroticism in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras in Japan.'
The book was written by an American, John Stevens (1947–2025, who just died in July). He was a professor of Buddhism studies and also of US Aikido.
The book is written in English and Japanese, making it easier to understand Shunga art. It includes all the plates with explanations and a complete index at the end.
You find the great masters like Hokusai or Izumo (The couple in the sea), Koji Fukiya (Taisho Era), and more recent figures from the Taisho-Showa Era, such as Sentaro Iwata, Shohachi Kimura, or Ikuzo Ito.
Plenty of plates are very few known, and that's interesting.

Larger than high, 26.5 x 19.5 cm, 153 pages paginated, only 300 copies (No. 32) with jacket and Obi. These are a bit worn, with small scratches on the edges, folds, and small yellow stains inside (not visible). The book remains in excellent condition.
