Pioneer SR-202W Reverberation stereo amplifier/reverberator, manufactured in 1976, in excellent physical condition, tested and working, weight 4.6 kg, dimensions 322 × 140 × 263 mm, includes power cable.
Description from the seller
Pioneer SR-202W is a stereo amplifier/reverberator — not a traditional power amplifier nor a receiver, but a unit designed to add analog reverb effects to an audio source (turntable, tape recorder, player, etc.).
It is the 'export' version of the original SR-202 model (so 'W' = worldwide / for export).
Produced by Pioneer in Japan during the years approximately 1972 to 1976.
Main technical specifications
Characteristic Value / Detail
Type: stereo amplifier / reverberator (spring-reverb)
Analog spring reverb system (2-spring unit, Accutronics type)
Reverb time ~ 0 – 2.5 seconds (at 1 kHz)
Frequency response 20 Hz – 35 kHz (in bypass mode / minimal reverb)
Total harmonic distortion (THD) < 0.2% (at 1 kHz, minimal reverberation, output 330 mV)
Signal-to-Noise Ratio (S/N) ≈ 65 dB (at output 330 mV)
Inputs 3 (Line, Tape Play 1, Tape Play 2) — input level 200 mV max 3 V
Outputs 3 (line out, Tape Rec 1, Tape Rec 2 — 330 mV)
Power supply AC 110/120/220/240 V (export version)
Consumption: approximately 9 W (or 10 W according to some sources)
Dimensions: approximately 322 × 140 × 263 mm (W × H × D)
Weight: approximately 4.6 kg
Features and usage characteristics.
The main function is to add analog reverb to an audio source, making the sound more spacious, more like that of a concert hall. This can give a vintage, warm, and distinctive touch.
Front panel controls for mix (dry signal + reverb), for depth, and for bypass.
It can be integrated with a standard stereo system: your turntable or player output can connect to the SR-202W input; the SR-202W output (line out) goes back to your amplifier or receiver.
Also offers connections for two tape recorders, allowing recording with reverb or without, depending on the needs.
It is not a power amplifier: it is not used to directly drive speakers — it acts as an 'effect' to be inserted into the chain preamplifier → reverb → main amplifier → speakers.
Advantages:
Warm and vintage sound: the spring reverb creates that characteristic retro atmosphere, highly appreciated by audiophiles and vintage hi-fi enthusiasts.
Excellent technical quality (low distortion, good frequency response) for an analog effects unit.
Compact and lightweight: easy to integrate into modern systems with a good number of inputs/outputs.
Versatile: it can benefit vinyl records, cassettes, or line-in sources, both for listening and recording.
Limits / To consider
It does not 'amplify' in the traditional sense — it does not provide power for speakers. It must always be used together with a separate amplifier or receiver.
