The Hongshan culture was a Neolithic civilization that existed in northeastern China, mainly in the present-day provinces of Liaoning and Inner Mongolia, between 4700 BC and 2900 BC. It is known for its advances in agriculture, ritual architecture, and art, especially its sophisticated jade figurines of indifferent alien-like forms and very ancient mythological deities.
