La raggiera di Pereta, a monumental antimonite meteorite with crystals on a matrix, from Pereta, Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The raggiera of Pereta – monumental antimonite of Tuscany

This extraordinary specimen, originating from the historic mineralizations of Pereta in Tuscany, represents one of the most impressive and scenographic samples of the species. The piece weighs 1.464 kg and measures 176 × 129 × 52 mm, dimensions that place it among museum-category specimens in terms of importance, rarity, and visual impact.

Unlike the most common acicular aggregations, the specimen displays a spectacular radiating structure: the metallic crystals, with their typical steel-gray color and mirror-like luster, are arranged in fans opening along the vein's axis. The growth occurred in a confined space, channeled between two more competent rock walls: unable to expand freely, crystallization followed the direction of the hydrothermal fissure, gradually filling the cavity and creating a set of clear, regular rays. The longitudinal striations on the prisms enhance the graphic effect, while the matrix supports and frames the entire crystal assembly.

From a genetic point of view, it is a filling of a hydrothermal vein rich in antimony: the precipitation of antimonite along fracture planes favored the directional growth of crystal bundles, with a slow and orderly evolution that produced the characteristic radiating architecture observable throughout the entire sample.

This piece is not only a valuable addition to a collection but a true natural work: its mass, structural elegance, and rare morphological development make it a reference point for Tuscan and Italian antimonite in general.

Kire Minerals is proud to present 'The Raggiera of Pereta,' selected and studied by Erik Lombini with the usual passion and expertise. Every detail of this sample tells the beauty and strength of Tuscany's mineral nature.
