The specimen La corona verde delle Alpi features chloritized quartz with adularia and titanite on a matrix, sourced from the Italian Alps in Italy.
Description from the seller
The green crown of the Alps – chloritized quartz with adularia and titanite
This specimen, originating from the Italian Alps, spectacularly combines chloritized quartz, pure white adularia crusts, and a deep yellow titanite crystal. It weighs 732 grams and measures 116 × 56 mm (maximum recorded size), an impressive size that enhances the aesthetic impact of the ensemble.
The summit part of the specimen is adorned with a 'crown' of very white adularia, perfectly laid out on a bed of quartz richly coated with chlorite: the deep green of chlorite envelops most of the crystals, making the quartz almost 'hidden' and creating a stark chromatic contrast with the milky white of the feldspar. In a small hidden geode, a vivid yellow titanite crystal stands out, well-formed and shiny, accompanied at the apex by a micro-very clear quartz: a precious detail that catches the eye and signifies the quality of the piece.
From a mineralogical perspective, this is a typical alpine fissure association: growth at low to medium temperatures in open fractures of metamorphic rocks, with chlorite coating the quartz crystals, imparting subtle green hues; adularia (potassium feldspar typical of alpine cavities) arranged in tufts on the summit; yellow-gold titanite (sphene), with a 'wedge' habit, high refractive index, and great brilliance. The balance between colors, morphologies, and spatial arrangement makes the specimen particularly spectacular.
This specimen is not only a prestigious addition to an alpine collection but also a small mineralogical picture: the cloritic texture, the adularia crown, and the luminous signature of titanite make it a reference point for elegance and educational value.
Kire Minerals is proud to present 'The Green Crown of the Alps,' selected and studied by Erik Lombini with the usual passion and expertise. Every detail of this piece tells the beauty and strength of Alpine fissure mineralogy.
