About the photographer:

Jerry Schatzberg was born in 1927 into a Jewish family of furriers and grew up in the Bronx.

He was a renowned fashion photographer in the 1960s for magazines such as Vogue, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, and Life. One of his most famous photographic works is the album cover of Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde (1966); a collection of Dylan's photos taken by Schatzberg was published in 2006 by Genesis Publications under the name Thin Wild Mercury.

In 1970, he directed his first feature film, 'Puzzle of a Downfall Child', where Faye Dunaway plays a former famous model whose life spirals into drug addiction and nervous depression. His second film, 'The Panic in Needle Park' (1971), depicts the life of a group of heroin addicts in New York. His third film, 'Scarecrow', won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973.

It was exhibited at the Rencontres d'Arles in 2008 and nominated for the Discovery Prize.

In 2022, Pierre Filmon created a documentary about his photographic and cinematic universe titled Jerry Schatzberg, Landscape Portrait, selected for the 79th Venice Film Festival.
