Description from the seller
Moroccan doors approximately 1830 – Set of 2 used wood/iron – Rare conical shape – Total 135×80 cm
Description (Dutch)
Very special set of two early 19th-century Moroccan doors, originating from the coastal region of Agadir–Essaouira.
These conically shaped doors were traditionally used on ships, coastal warehouses, and fortified trading depots. A complete set of two matching doors from this period is extremely rare.
Both doors are made from solid Moroccan hardwood (thuya/argan-type), heavy and compact in structure.
The ironwork – nails, bands, hinge points, and ring striker – is entirely hand-forged, recognizable by the square nails and irregular hammer blows.
The back shows deep historical wear, old repairs, and numerous reinforcements similar to authentic work doors from the early 19th century. This patina is highly valued by collectors and interior designers.
Together, the doors form an impressive decorative object, ideal for loft interiors, wabi-sabi style, riad decor, hotel decoration, or wall presentation.
