Description from the seller
Louis XVI period white marble and gilt bronze portico clock.
A sumptuous portico clock in white marble and finely chiseled and gilded bronze, characteristic of the refined taste of the reign of Louis XVI. The circular enameled dial, adorned with finely openwork hands, indicates the hours in Arabic numerals. It is suspended between two fluted uprights richly decorated with foliage and laurel garlands, symbols of glory and eternity.
The whole is topped with an elegant covered vase decorated with floral garlands and framed by two matching urns. The pendulum, representing a solar mask, delicately enlivens the composition. The rectangular base, enhanced with interlacing friezes and acanthus leaves, rests on four turned feet.
With its remarkable proportions (55cm) and the perfect balance of its proportions and the quality of its chiseling, this clock brilliantly illustrates the neoclassical aesthetic of the end of the 18th century, combining majesty and purity of lines. A true work of decorative art, it will bring an aristocratic and luminous charm to any interior.
This clock works perfectly.
