Description from the seller

Unique and incredible opalized Ammolite from the Bearpaw Formation, Canada!

This spectacular piece features incredible colors that span the entire primary color spectrum! The main colors are green and red, but you can also appreciate shades of blue, purple, and yellow!

About 15 cm long!

Of course, the photos can't reproduce the true beauty and spaciousness of this piece! In sunlight and in person, it's enormously better!

This coloration is among the rarest and most sought after; Ammolite with more than three colors is very rare, especially in violet and blue! The piece features a complete Ammolite, with another fragment of a different Ammolite on the back side.

It presents a fracture glued at the time of extraction, as can be seen from the photos.

Ammolite is one of the most sought-after and rare gemstones in the world. This type of gem is only mined from the bearpaw formation in Canada. It is estimated that the current potential is limited, and only 5% of the pieces extracted exhibit gemstone properties.

There is no official classification system for Canadian ammolite, but the International Gem Society (IGS) proposes the best alternative.

The four grades of IGS ammolite range from AA to A-. Each grade includes four categories of requirements that the ammolite must meet: color, iridescence, chromatic variation, and rotation interval.

Here are the requirements for each level.

Grade AA: 3 or more colors; Bright iridescence; Spectrochromatic shift; 360° rotation range.

Grade A+: 1 or 2 colors; Bright iridescence; Dichromatic shift; 240° rotation range.

Grade A: 1 pale color or colors; inclusions that affect iridescence; monochromatic shift; 180° rotation range.

Grade A: dark or pale colors; dark/dull iridescence; small chromatic shift; rotation interval of 90°.
The best ammolite has at least three colors belonging to different color families. The main families are red (with orange and yellow), blue (with purple), and green. Even higher concentrations of rare shades can increase its value.

What is the rarest color of ammolite? Purple is the rarest, which means that the more purple an ammolite has, the higher its value. Crimson and gold have similar effects.
