Beautiful original 1954 edition of La Guerre et la Paix, the celebrated volume published by Cercle d’Art with text by Claude Roy and illustrations by Pablo Picasso.
This trade edition includes seven splendid lithographs printed by Mourlot, reproducing Picasso’s preparatory drawings and mural compositions for the monumental frescoes La Guerre and La Paix in the chapel at Vallauris.
The lithographs, executed under Picasso’s supervision, faithfully reproduce the original colors and lines of the master’s works. The set includes the iconic double-page reproductions of the two murals, Le hibou de la mort (frontispiece), two portraits of Dora Maar (Tête de femme and Buste de figure féminine), and two portraits of Françoise Gilot (Portrait de Françoise, 1946 and 1944).
Printed by the Mourlot studio—the same atelier responsible for Picasso’s finest lithographic projects—this edition demonstrates exceptional chromatic precision and lithographic quality.
