The economic history of China for the majority of the Qing Dynasty was based on the silver from the Spanish Indies.
The Spanish dollar of 8 reales became the basis of trade between China and the West from the 16th to the 19th century, so successful that it extended to Indian, Japanese, and Indonesian commerce.
In adopting foreign currencies into the Chinese monetary system, the technique of reselling was used for the control and verification of the authenticity, weight, and purity of the silver pieces.
The variety of imprints or marks (punched, geometric, figurative) and the place where the imprint is located alter its meaning and complemented to indicate technical aspects of the item, region, or dates.
All this makes all the resold pieces unique and no two are the same.
