Description from the seller
Rare Ottoman solid silver incense burner – Work from Southeast Europe, late 18th to early 19th century
Solid silver altar perfume burner (test with stone confirming authenticity), mounted on a large tray decorated with garlands and small flowers in repoussé.
The bulging body, articulated by a hinge, opens to receive embers and incense; the dome is perforated with stylized plant motifs allowing smoke to diffuse. The top handle is shaped like a blooming button.
The decor, entirely repoussé and chased, features a floral vocabulary typical of workshops in Southeast Europe around 1780–1820: scalloped border, peripheral pastillages, and small repeated floral clusters.
The baluster stem is well proportioned, and the piece is distinguished by an even, antique patina.
Construction without a visible punch mark, which is not rare for provincial productions from this period.
Liturgical function: used on the altar to perfume the sacred space before the services or in private chapels.
The integrated platform prevented marking the altar cloths.
Very good overall condition; signs of use, minor manufacturing irregularities, oxidized interior as expected; sturdy hinge and functional opening mechanism. No major deformations.
Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. They allow you to assess their condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
