Covert to Overt: The Under/Overground Art of Shepard Fairey
I am very proud of it, because I am not only enthusiastic about the content itself, but I also believe that the design and photography are the best of all my books so far. When I was at art school, I was told that screen printing and street art were not visual arts or 'real art.' I didn't listen, and as a result, both have been key to almost every opportunity I've had as an artist. I have never defined myself solely as a street artist, but as someone who believes that art is a powerful form of expression that should be harnessed and woven into many aspects of the world.

Shepard Fairey's recent art and poster work, and his triumphant return to his roots in street art with murals, are all works that have never been published before. Shepard Fairey emerged from the skateboard scene and created his sticker campaign 'Andre the Giant Has a Posse' in the late 1980s, and has since gained mainstream recognition that most street art artists will never achieve. Fairey's 'Hope' poster, created during Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, is perhaps the most iconic American image since Uncle Sam. Fairey has become a pop culture icon himself, though he has remained true to his street art roots. Covert to Overt shows his latest evolution from works on paper to larger art installations, intercultural artworks, and collaborations between music and art. The book also features his ubiquitous streetwear and describes his return to public artworks. His distinctive blend of politics, street culture, and art makes Fairey different from all other subcultures/street art artists today.

This book showcases the significant amount of art he has created over the past years: street murals, mixed-media installations, art/music events, countless screen prints, and work from his highly successful brand OBEY. — Rizzoli

2. Fairey-isms
I feel honored to belong to such a prestigious company, including Virgil Abloh, Keith Haring, Marilyn Minter, Andy Warhol, Jenny Holzer, and MANY MORE. The Fairey-isms book is being released today. Read it if you not only love the art I create but also the words I use to highlight my art and ideas! It features quotes from my 35-year career covering a wide range of entertaining and serious debate topics... while also addressing serious and entertaining debate subjects!

Fairey-isms is a new book by @No More Rulers, published by Princeton University Press, offering insight into Shepard Fairey's approach to propaganda and power in art. This book is part of the ISMs series, which features beautifully designed books containing quotes from visual artists or designers, with powerful statements on topics ranging from contemporary culture, politics, and race to creativity, humanity, and the role of art in the world.
